10 years later, Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is only getting younger

The first few years of this past decade was a bad time if you were not a Katy Perry fan. Avoiding a hit Katy Perry song in 2011 was like avoiding celebrity drama in 2019 or avoiding TikTok in 2020.

​Like useless information about celebrities' lives and cringy videos of teenagers doing viral dances, there’s likely a part of you, whether you’ll admit to it or not, that is at least slightly interested. You hate it, but not because you do, because you have to. If you’re older than, say, 35, it is likely that whenever you heard “California Gurls” you tried your hardest to find reasons to hate what you were hearing. How could you possibly like a top 10 pop song, especially one as vapid as that?
